 MOVING  CHECKLIST

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
PRINT THIS CHECKLIST FOR A HANDY REMINDER
Take a full inventory of the items you will move. Obtain a written appraisal of antique items to verify their value. (Don’t wax or oil wood furniture before moving, because some products may soften the wood, making it vulnerable to imprinting from furniture pads.) Discard, sell or give away things you won’t need (or haven’t used in ages and think you might but never will!)
Consult with your mover before planning to move any plants.
Dispose of all flammables such as cleaning fluids and aerosol cans.
Drain the fuel from your power mower and other machinery.
Discard partly used containers of any substance that may leak.
Unplug all electronic equipment such as television sets, home computers, stereos, etc. 24 hours in advance of a move so they will be at room temperature on moving day. Moving a TV set and other electronic equipment in which heat is still retained could cause internal damage.
Return all library books and borrowed items.
Update your address book.
Notify the following of your new address a month before you move:
Post office Banks/Loan companies
Social security office Insurance companies
Attorney Charge accounts
Magazines, book clubs, newspapers Employer
Write down important phone numbers and arrange cut-off dates:
Electric company Gas company
Garbage company Water company
Phone company
Arrange transfer of:
School records Safe deposit boxes
Medical/dental records Savings accounts
Veterinary records Legal records
Be sure to obtain a sufficient supply of important medical prescriptions.
Make arrangements for moving your pets.
If you are doing the packing, obtain materials and begin packing at least two weeks prior to the move. (Don’t come to a screeching halt every time you see a good looking box on the roadside.)
Keep a record of all tax-deductible moving expenses and receipts.
Set aside essential, daily-used items. Pack them last. Unload first.
Clothing Medicine Tool kit
Pet food Emergency items Light bulbs
Toilet articles Cooking utensils Snacks
Bed linens/towels Cleaning supplies Favorite toys
Favorite games Instant foods
Hardware from disassembled items
Make sure your mover knows where to contact you or your designated
representative during the move.
Confirm your valuation amount and shipping dates as they appear
on the Bill of Lading.
Be certain to check off all items at delivery.
